Travelling to School

School Travel Plan

The Ursuline Preparatory School takes its responsibility to be as environmentally aware as possible very seriously. One of the ways in which we promote green issues is in our School Travel Plan.

The school has been awarded the Transport for London's (TfL) Silver Award for Sustainable Travel. TfL and local boroughs are working with schools to encourage them to develop travel plans through a London school travel programme. A copy of our Travel Plan is available from the school office.

We strongly encourage that, where possible, girls walk, cycle or scooter into school, and encourage car sharing for those who live further afield. We support Merton Council's Walk to School programme and in particular the Walk Once a Week initiative.

For those families that have to drive to and from school, there is a 'Drop and Go' zone to help ease congestion. The school day has staggered finishing times, so that only a small school population exit on to The Downs at any one time.

Drop & Go Zone

The Quick Drop Zone is sited just below the yellow zigzags outside the main entrance to the school. Drop and Go is manned with staff and parent volunteers from 8:00 am until 8.30 am every morning of school term.

Pupils in Nursery and Reception are escorted into the playground or school, depending on the weather.

In wet weather Nursery children will be taken to the Nursery as normal, Pre-Prep girls will go straight to their classrooms and all the other girls should make their way to the main school hall.

Drop & Go Users:

For us to continue to be allowed to operate the Drop & Go Zone, all users MUST:

  • Drive down The Downs to avoid causing congestion
  • Drive as far down the Zone as possible to make room for other another car in the space behind
  • NOT open the passenger doors unless the car is clearly in the Zone.
  • NOT do U-turns on the zigzags. This is illegal because it is dangerous, potentially lethal, and you could quite properly be spot fined.
  • NOT stop on the zigzags - you may get fined.

Drop & Go Volunteers

Volunteers are always welcome and if you are interested please leave your name and contact details with the School Office who will pass on your details to the Coordinator. Volunteers will normally be expected to help one morning every four weeks.

Parents may view details of Volunteer Responsibilities here on the website.
